Annecy

I woke up this morning feeling much better which was quite a relief. We had another lovely breakfast, this time with a twist. We sat next to an English couple from Gloucester and the man’s name turned out to be David Stevens! Apparently there had been some confusion for Chrystelle as we had booked within a day of each other and they had booked to arrive on the day Gill left.

After breakfast, we decided to head out to explore the old town of Annecy in the day light. On the way to the old town we stumbled across the local Notre Dame which was amazingly calming on the inside. We made our way through the car-less streets to the Thiou canal which has the famous Annecy landmark, the Palais ds l'Isle which was originally the residence of the Lord of Annecy before being alternately used as a courthouse, a mint and a jail.

We had a good look around the shops and stopped for Crepes down by the canal. The sun started to come out for the first time in the last three days which was welcomed by all. On the way back to the car, we stopped at a playground to tire Will out for his afternoon sleep.

Will went to sleep easily so Lou decided to take the opportunity to do the same. While they slept, I caught up on our log, watched some more House MD, and planned our journey to Montreux tomorrow. It was after 5:00 when Lou and Will woke up so we decided to stay at La Saliere for the evening. We had our dinner (Pizza!) and after it had settled we went for a swim. Will attempted to throw a ball from the side of the pool but, on one occasion, he slipped and fell in head first. I scooped him up worried that he might have got a shock, but he came out laughing!

We put Will to bed and sat up watching the final of Season 3 of House and some Boston Legal while enjoying some more treats. Then we went to bed.

“I’m full of chocolate and cheese and wine. This is a magical land.”
Lou, after much of the aforementioned substances.
