Los Angeles to Munich

It was an early start for us as Will woke at 5:30 and wouldn’t go back to sleep. After half an hour of complaining, I took him for an exploratory ride around Irvine. We found the local shopping centre and a ball park. We stopped at the ball park for about half an hour as Will was quite happy to open and shut the doors to all the dugouts at least fifty times each. An OCD warning perhaps?

We headed back but everyone was still asleep so we went down to the pool and spa for a quick dip. Then we went and picked up some Starbucks for everyone to kick start our days. We said goodbye to S&S as they left for work and we headed out to find a doctor to give us some antibiotics for Will whose cold from three weeks ago had been causing him sleeping difficulties.

We made an appointment and headed out to find some food. We initially pulled up at a Carl’s Jr but the pictures of food on the outside of the shop looked so greasy that we felt sick before even going inside. We eventually found a place that sold some very nice donuts and a ham and cheese stuffed croissant. We headed back to the doctor and started waiting again. We spent the best part of another hour waiting for a doctor and left in disgust finding the “instant service” tag a tad misleading.

After thinking that the morning couldn’t get any worse, we picked up our gear and left for LAX. We found the way without any problems, but filling the tank up with gas was quite the mission. Eventually we dropped off the rental car and were delivered to LAX. While the arrival two days earlier at LAX was easy, the departure was not. We waited in a queue that started outside the doors for over an hour and found the processing procedures very lax (pun intended). We were there for over two hours and were still rushed through only just in time to make the flight. Will did very well sitting in his pram for all that time.

The flight itself was relatively uneventful except for the fact that Will was too big to fit in their cots and there was a dispute between passengers a couple of rows behind us as we were approaching Munich. We did have a good amount of room for Will to sleep on the floor which forced us to sleep with our feet up on the wall. It actually made for a relatively comfortable sleep and was probably quite good for preventing DVT.
