Montmartre

In the morning we decided we would head down to a market and take a look around. Millie’s guide to Paris indicated the best one for us to go to was the Marche Bastille. I was a lovely day so we went for a stroll down the streets to find it. It was a bit depressing to see a few people sleeping on the side of the street and the stench of old urine every now and then.

We eventually arrived at the market and it was quite a huge affair. Stalls selling all things from clothes, belts and bags to fresh fish, cheeses and other foodstuffs. I bought a belt and Lou bought a bag. We also bought some things for lunch. Will was starting to fade so I brought him home for a sleep while Lou and Millie carried on looking around the market. I had only done one side of one block and there were two sides and at least another block of stalls.

Will slept well and I caught up on my log – it seems to be the best time to do it. After about an hour, Lou and Millie came home and we prepared lunch just as Will woke up. Millie’s book had a good walk called “Walk of the Artists” which we decided we would do. It led up through narrow, cobbled streets and marbled steps through the old village of Montmartre to the top of the hill. Half way up we stopped at a nice little restaurant called Le Maison Rose and we had a crepe and a full pitcher of wine.

We stopped at a few art shops on the way up the hill and had a look through some of the recent art. Millie discovered a lovely book of Paris that I loved so much that I bought a copy for us as well. We finally made it to the top where the absolutely stunning Sacre Coeur was perched. It afforded fantastic views of Paris and the building itself was magnificent.

Will was a bit grumpy after having sat in the backpack for the last hour and a half, so we made our way down the hill to a small playground that had slides and a carousel which Will and I went for a ride on. This refreshed him enough that he was willing to go back in the backpack for the short ride home. We bought some wine and walked past Moulin Rouge before jumped on the Metro.

Once Will was back home and asleep, I showed Lou and Millie some videos from the day. There was a clip showing Will playing with a hairclip, which Millie said she couldn’t find. We watched the clip further and we saw him put the clip in a small drawer in the fold out table. We opened the drawer and, sure enough, it was still there. We settled down in front of the Pierrade and enjoyed some fresh salmon, scallops and wine before going to bed.
