Lewisham

We hadn’t been to church for over three weeks so we were looking forward to going to Mathew and Jackie’s church in Shadwell. Mathew had to work again so unfortunately he wasn’t able to join us. The service was nice and informal which reminded us quite a bit of St Matthew’s back home which is probably why Mathew and Jackie picked it. They have their children’s area in the crypt downstairs which was a great spot for the kids to run around in. I left Will down there with Jackie and Samuel and came back up to hear the sermon.

After church, we went back home to put the kids to bed. We booked our tickets to Cheltenham Spa since Sally works in Cheltenham and finishes work at the time the train is due to arrive. We had planned to go to the city to look around Harrods and some other shops but we were both feeling quite tired and wanted to do something low key. Jackie was going to be going to a BBQ at Mel’s (her sister) house in the afternoon and so she invited us to join her. We travelled on the DLR to Lewisham and walked for almost half an hour to get to her house. Lewisham had a slightly dodgy feel about it but we never felt threatened in any way. Once we had walked up the hill a bit, it turned into a nice quiet neighbourhood.

Mel and Tim made us feel very welcome in their back garden and we met a lot of nice people and their children. Will had a great time running around the section, playing with the children and climbing up and going down their slide. We sat there for over four hours eating, drinking and enjoying the company and the nice weather.

Jackie suggested that we walk home which isn’t too much further than taking the DLR. We found a lovely route home down some tree lined streets with a mixture of old and new houses. We had a very relaxed evening at home just chatting, watching rubbish on TV and showing Mathew a few things on YouTube to brighten his day.
