Paris to London

In the morning, we all woke up nice and late, packed up the rest of the gear and had breakfast. We finished cleaning up as Millie caught her train back to London and we followed about half an hour later. We caught the Metro to Gare du Nord and found our way through the Eurostar terminal to pick up our tickets. It was a really hot day and even after lugging our gear only a relatively short distance, I had to change my tee shirt.

The Eurostar was a good high speed train and we had lots of room for our gear and a few extra seats at the back of the car where I tried to get Will to sleep. He wasn’t so keen however so I suggested we put him in his car seat while Lou figured out how to get it to recline right back. Within minutes Will dropped off a couple of minutes in to the channel tunnel. Bye bye France.

The Eurostar emerged from the tunnel in England and there was a noticeable difference in the houses, countryside and signs that made me feel more at home. We approached London and a few of the sights (London Eye, BT Tower) came in to view which I pointed out to Lou as we flew past.

Millie had decided to wait for us at the station and Jackie and Samuel were going to meet us there as well so when we arrived we have a lovely greeting. We went up to a coffee shop and sat down for a refreshing iced latte. While we were sitting there, a group of people came up with a heavy duty camera and set it up beside us. Lou suggested that maybe they were filming Doctor Who. As we watched, a man came out with a clapper board that announced Spooks Season 6. As we watched, the head Spook walked out in front of us to meet a man in the middle of Waterloo station. I can’t wait to see it – maybe we are on TV?

Will woke up saying we were still in France, then we said goodbye to Millie and followed Jackie to Greenwich via the DLR . We walked our gear from the station to Jackie’s house which felt like an eternity as my elbows were on the verge of locking forever. Eventually we made it and we heaved a great sigh of relief as we let go of all our gear. We sat out the back of their house and had ice lollies which had the effect of making our pain go away.

We sat relaxing and chatting while having juice and coffee. Mathew arrived home from work, we had a nice dinner of tortillas and wine, and we went to sleep quite late but feeling very glad that we had made it to England in one piece.
